Here's the block that I made for Nadia. I really loved working with this color/fabric combination and it was so much fun to put this block together. For the embroidery, I just traced a flower pattern from the black fabric. I went a little overboard on the size, so I think it turned out to be 17" x 17", but hopefully a little trimming can remedy that!

I'm working on mine right now but it's the same sort of idea. I'm using that same fabric as a guide for my embroidery :-)
Mine ended up big too - I think it's about 16" x 16"

i'm reassured that your block is too big. i started working on mine last night and got worried that i'd run a bit short on fabric, but... i think i can make it work. beautiful embroidery!
