the story of a quilt...continued...

I dropped in on my boys today...Jon and I had some college things to do together. While I waited for him to get ready I, being the 'good mom,' decided to fold laundry to kill time. When I opened the dryer I found Jon's quilt all clean and fluffy. As I was folding I spotted this.

I almost fell over. I can't believe it happened again. It's my fault really. Bless the boy for doing his laundry and more points for washing his bedding. I neglected to tell him not to put this quilt in that compact washer.

It looks like I'll be ripping this quilt apart again. Maybe, hopefully, with any luck, the third time will be the charm.

Would I be considered a cheater and a radical if I suggest that you create a coordinating patch instead of tearing apart that beautiful quilt? Quilts get worn (albeit not as quickly as this one) so maybe if you're not a Virgo like me, you might decide that the wear/tear/subsequent patching equals character and not a hideous amount of labour. Good luck no matter what you decide!

Oh - I feel sick to my stomach for you...I cannot believe it! I like the patch idea!

I can't believe this! Your quilt has gone through so much. I agree that a patch might be the perfect fit for this. The quilt already has a lot of texture with the cotton and linen, so why not add a little more? :)

Oh my achin' #@$%#! I dread throwing my quilts in the washer, mainly because this keeps happening to me too! I want that beautiful quiltiness too, yet I think I need to learn how to make :good: seams! I'm very new at this!

I can't remember. Is it a particular piece of fabric that continues to disintegrate. I may be wrong but it feels more like a fabric failure than a laundry failure.

it's not the fabric...it's the washer...it's a queen sized quilt stuffed in a compact washer....the last time it got caught in the agitator and tore. it washed up fine multiple times in my big washer.

You should write a book about this quilt and call it "The Quilt That Never Wanted to Be". Bless your heart, Jon is loving that thing to pieces.

Oh, I can not believe you have to repair it again. It is a beautiful quilt though. I am sure your son appreciates all your time and attention.
